Tremors are a common symptom of many neurological disorders, including essential tremors and Parkinson’s disease. While tremors characterize both conditions, they differ in their causes, symptoms, and treatments.

While both essential tremors and Parkinson’s tremors are characterized by tremors, there are several key differences between the two conditions:

  • Essential tremors typically occur with movement. In contrast, Parkinson’s tremors occur at rest.

  • Essential tremors are usually bilateral, while Parkinson’s tremors often begin on one side of the body.

  • Essential tremors may improve with alcohol intake, while Parkinson’s tremors do not.

  • Essential tremors are not typically accompanied by other neurological symptoms, while Parkinson’s disease may cause rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability.
